Question 1

How much do solar panels cost in the UK?

Accepted Answer

Cost depends on system size, roof layout, access and electrical work. Our solar-only starting prices begin at £7,350 for eight 480 W AIKO panels with a Solis inverter. A 12-panel Solis system starts at £8,200, or £9,900 with a 10 kWh Solis battery. These are guide prices; we review your property details and confirm the final design and price in a written quote.

Question 2

What is your entry-level solar package?

Accepted Answer

Our lowest published solar-only starting price is £7,350 for eight 480 W AIKO panels with a Solis hybrid inverter and standard installation. We review your usage and roof details to recommend a suitable design and confirm the final price in writing.

Question 3

Do solar panels work on cloudy days?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Panels generate from diffuse daylight as well as direct sun, so they still produce on overcast days — just less than in bright conditions. UK systems are designed around realistic annual daylight, not perfect summer days.

Question 4

How does solar PV actually work?

Accepted Answer

Photovoltaic cells absorb light and release electrons, creating a direct current. An inverter converts that DC into the alternating current your property uses. Anything you don't use is stored in a battery if you have one, or exported to the grid.

Question 5

What happens to the electricity I don't use?

Accepted Answer

It is either stored in a battery for later, or exported to the grid. Export is normally paid for under a Smart Export Guarantee tariff from an electricity supplier — rates vary by supplier, so it is worth comparing.

Question 6

Do I need a battery with solar?

Accepted Answer

Not necessarily. Our Solis, Sigenergy and Anker SOLIX solar packages can be priced without a battery, with storage available as an addition. Tesla is different: every Powerwall 3 solar package includes 13.5 kWh of battery storage and a built-in inverter. A battery can help you use more of your own generation in the evening, but the right choice depends on your usage and tariff.

Question 7

How much can a battery reduce my bills?

Accepted Answer

We find that adding a solar battery can reduce electricity bills by up to 70%. Your own result depends on your consumption pattern, tariff and system size, so treat any figure as indicative until it is modelled for your property.

Question 8

Can I add a battery to an existing solar system?

Accepted Answer

In most cases yes. We assess your existing inverter and wiring and either add an AC-coupled battery alongside it or recommend a hybrid inverter replacement where that gives a better long-term result.

Question 9

Will a battery keep my lights on in a power cut?

Accepted Answer

Only if the system is specifically designed with backup capability, using compatible hardware and additional switchgear. It is not automatic — tell us when you enquire if backup matters to you.

Question 10

Can I charge my EV from my solar panels?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A solar-aware charger can be set to use surplus generation rather than importing from the grid, either topping up only with spare solar or blending solar with a small grid draw to keep the charge going.

Question 11

How fast is a home EV charger?

Accepted Answer

A typical UK home charger is 7kW on a single-phase supply. Properties with a three-phase supply may support 22kW. Actual speed also depends on your vehicle's onboard charger.

Question 12

Is commercial solar worth it for my business?

Accepted Answer

It depends on your daytime consumption, roof area, roof condition and electricity tariff. Businesses that use most of their power during daylight hours generally see the strongest case. We model this from your actual half-hourly data rather than assumptions.

Question 13

Will installation disrupt operations?

Accepted Answer

Commercial installations are programmed around your operations, including out-of-hours and phased works where needed. Access, isolation and safe systems of work are agreed before we start.

Question 14

Can I finance a solar installation?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Finance is available over 12, 24, 36 and 48 months at 14.99% effective APR through a third-party credit provider, subject to status, with a minimum deposit of 7.5% of the estimated system quote and no penalty for early repayment.

Question 15

Do I pay VAT on solar panels?

Accepted Answer

Qualifying domestic installations of energy-saving materials currently attract 0% VAT in the UK until 31 March 2027. we estimate this saves an average household around £1,850. Eligibility depends on the property and the works.

Question 16

How long does an installation take?

Accepted Answer

Around 99% of our domestic solar installations are completed on site in one day once access and any scaffolding are ready. More complex installations can take longer, and we confirm the expected schedule before work starts. Commercial programmes are planned project by project.

Question 17

Do I need planning permission?

Accepted Answer

Most domestic roof-mounted solar in England falls under permitted development, but listed buildings, conservation areas and some flat-roof or ground-mount installations can need consent. We flag this during the design review.

Question 18

What warranties come with my system?

Accepted Answer

Our solar panels carry a 25-year warranty and our installation work is covered by a 10-year workmanship guarantee. Inverter, battery and EV charger warranties vary by manufacturer and are confirmed in your written quote.

Question 19

What is a solar PPA?

Accepted Answer

Our solar Power Purchase Agreements are for eligible commercial customers only. A funding partner pays for a solar system at your business premises, and your business buys the electricity it generates at an agreed rate over the contract term. The funder owns and maintains the system, so your business avoids the upfront capital cost.

Question 20

Who maintains a PPA system?

Accepted Answer

For a commercial solar PPA, the asset owner is normally responsible for maintaining, monitoring and insuring the system for the contract term. The agreement sets out the exact responsibilities. We do not offer PPAs for domestic customers.

Question 21

Are solar panels worth it in the UK?

Accepted Answer

For most homes with a suitable roof, yes — UK systems are designed around realistic annual daylight rather than perfect summer sun. Whether it stacks up for you depends on your roof orientation, how much electricity you use and when you use it. We model this from your actual usage before quoting, so you see the real numbers for your property rather than a national average.

Question 22

How long do solar panels last?

Accepted Answer

Modern panels are built to generate for 25 years or more, with output degrading slowly over time. Our panels carry a 25-year warranty, and the rest of the system — inverter, battery and mounting — has its own manufacturer warranty, which we confirm in your written quote.

Question 23

What is the Smart Export Guarantee?

Accepted Answer

The Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) is a government-backed scheme that requires larger electricity suppliers to pay you for surplus electricity you export to the grid. Rates vary widely between suppliers and tariffs, so it is worth comparing — we can point you to the current options when we design your system.

Question 24

How many solar panels does my home need?

Accepted Answer

It depends on your annual electricity use, roof space and budget. Our published packages start at eight panels, and the right size may differ from the guide on this site. We review your usage and roof details before preparing your design and quote.

Question 25

How long do solar batteries last?

Accepted Answer

Most modern home batteries are warranted for around 10 years or a set number of charge cycles, and many keep working usefully beyond that with reduced capacity. The exact warranty depends on the manufacturer — Tesla, Sigenergy, Anker SOLIX and the other brands we install each publish their own terms, which we include in your quote.

Question 26

How much does it cost to install an EV charger at home?

Accepted Answer

Our lowest published starting price is for the untethered Anker SOLIX V1: £899 installed on its own, or £700 when bought with a solar PV system. Tethered options and other brands, including Tesla, Sigenergy, zappi and Hypervolt, have their own starting prices on our packages page. The final price depends on the cable route, electrical work and installation details, which we confirm in a written quote.

Question 27

What accreditations should a solar installer have?

Accepted Answer

Look for MCS certification (required for SEG export payments), plus membership of bodies such as NICEIC, TrustMark, the ECA and Constructionline, and manufacturer certifications for the brands being installed. We hold these accreditations and display them on our accreditations page.

Question 28

Do you install outside London?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We are based in Greenford, West London, and install across London, the Home Counties and surrounding areas, with commercial projects delivered across the UK. Confirm your postcode with our team and we will let you know straight away.
